Sarah, Owner/Piano Instructor

Sarah has been teaching piano in the Hammonds Plains/Upper Tantallon area for over 8 years having first opened her home studio in 2013. During that time her studio has grown to over 70 students, she has added KiddyKeys for little ones 2.5 - 5 years old, and she started group lessons allowing the opportunity for more aspiring musicians to join her studio. In 2020, Sarah moved her studio into its own space at the St. Margaret’s Centre where it has continued to grow in size and types of lesson offerings. Sarah is always happy to welcome new aspiring musicians to her studio!

Sarah began studying piano at the age of 6 and has obtained Grade 8 certification with the Royal Conservatory of Music. Due to her love of music she then decided to continue her studies in university and in 2006 Sarah graduated from Acadia University with a Bachelor of Music.

Sarah developed a passion for working with young children early on through her time as a Rec Ranger at Yogi Bear Jellystone Park, as a Counselor at Camp Shiktehawk, teaching Sunday school, and working at day care centres. During Sarah's degree she also spent time working in Elementary Schools teaching music to young children.

Sarah focuses on making her lessons fun and enjoyable. She would love for you and your children to be part of her piano studio family. Contact her today!

THE STUDIO

Each weeknight students come and go from Sarah's Piano Studio, one after another. They learn, they have fun, and they grow into young, talented musicians. But the real energy of the studio is on display at each recital when the students gather together and perform, demonstrating their hard-earned talent and dedication as their friends and family join in celebration.

Testimonials

Music Lessons

2.5 - 5 years old

KiddyKeys is a music discovery and piano exploration class for preschool aged children. Your child will:

  • Experience the sheer joy of learning piano concepts and music appreciation.

  • Build character through lessons emphasizing the development of positive values and self-worth.

  • Develop learning skills that will prepare them for school.

You'll beam with pride as your little one happily sings songs about Mozart and Beethoven, recognizes the music alphabet, and develops rhythm and movement. Who knows? Your child may even grow up to play a Chopin piano concerto someday!

KiddyKeys lessons are provided to groups of up to 8 students. They are currently offered for children attending the Willowbrae Academy in Hammonds Plains. Once a year Sarah hosts a piano recital and KiddyKeys students are invited to come put on a group performance.

Group Lessons

Ages 5 and up, 1 hour lesson, 3 - 4 students per group

New students begin with a 30 minute introductory private lesson where they will learn hand position, posture, and fingering. They will be given all of the necessary tools needed to begin a fun and enjoyable journey exploring and learning the piano!

Students then join weekly group sessions where they will spend 1 hour learning proper technique, to read music, sight reading, music theory, and ear training. Sarah provides each student with instruction tailored to their individual needs allowing each student to progress at their own pace. Fun group activities are integrated into the lessons to provide an enjoyable learning experience and reinforce music principles.

Each week your child will leave the studio having already learned the material they need to practice, During their 1 hour lesson, students will develop confidence with their own abilities and practicing piano will no longer be an intimidating chore, but an enjoyable experience they will look forward to.

Once a year Sarah hosts a piano recital. Each student will work toward preparing two pieces to perform at the recital. The recital gives students something to work toward, experience performing in front of a crowd in a relaxed atmosphere, and it serves as a celebration for the children and parents!

Private Lessons

30 minute lesson

Private lessons are generally meant for more experienced students who have already developed reliable practice routines and will benefit greatest from a 30 minute 1-on-1 lesson.

Private lessons will continue to develop a student's piano abilities including proper technique, reading music, sight reading, music theory, and ear training. In addition, students at this level have a greater variety of music from which they can learn.

Royal Conservatory of Music

The Royal Conservatory of Music is a large and respected music and arts institution which provides Canada's national standard curriculum for the study of music.

Students who decide to pursue certification through the Royal Conservatory typically have far more success learning the piano than those who do not. The benefits are not that they only become accomplished musicians, but they also learn other valuable skills such as time management, self-discipline and following directions.

The sense of accomplishment and self-worth gained is priceless.

Sarah has experience teaching and coaching students who have achieved First Class Honours Royal Conservatory Certification at different levels. She looks forward to working with any aspiring students who are willing to work hard toward completing this high-level achievement.
